Art Gallery De Mijlpaal was founded in 1993 and organizes exhibitions in its branch in Heusden-Zolder and, since 2013, also in its second branch in Knokke-Zoute.
The name De Mijlpaal refers to the high-voltage pylon around which the gallery space in Heusden-Zolder is built. In the center of Limburg, architect Bart Lens' design provides the setting for the distinctive dialogue between contemporary art, design and ethnic art. Its location in Knokke with a view on the beach and sea, is the starting point for demonstrating the great variety of interfaces between art disciplines.
De Mijlpaal deliberately works with established and young artists, and shows their work in exhibitions that start from a concept. With this tension between old and new, form and content, colour and sound De Mijlpaal is able to put itself on the map. De Mijlpaal also often acts as curator for extra muros exhibitions in historic buildings at home and abroad.
