Berlinde de Bruyckere
The human body is central to the art of Berlinde de Bruyckere. Recurring themes in her work are vulnerability, transience and loneliness. She always searches for the meaning of humanity, physicality, suffering and vitality. Her 'blanket people', deformed bodies in wax of people and horses and other installations have a universal and unceasing value. But they take on an added urgency at this time when, the need for human connection is greater than ever, while at the same time the body has become a danger to man.
