Seven years after Frieda Sorber's socio-artistic tresses project, where the participants of the Virga Jesse procession gave a lock of hair and thus formed the DNA of the 20th and 21st century population of the city of Hasselt, artist Timo van Luijk will present a second artistic intervention.
Together with “the rotten”, the Hasselt city districts, the artist will collect shoes that were worn during previous processions.
Therefore, this year we ask the participants to deliver a worn shoe (instead of a lock of hair) for A LONG WALKING.
The worn shoes symbolize the continuous search for singularity and spirituality, transferred into image and sound by the artist. A LONG WALKING becomes the repetitive evocation of the participants walking in the procession, which is visually shown through the shoes and can be heard in the cadence of the musical creation by Timo van Luijk.
After the exhibition CELIBATAIR DIVAS, the artwork A LONG WALKING will be solemnly packed and handed over to Stadsmus as an artistic testimony of the 46th Septennial Virga Jesse procession.
